In 1967, Artifort's F587 Lounge Chair was created by designer Geoffrey Harcourt. Inspired by a shell, the chair features a large shape that allows for optimal comfort. This philosophy aligns with Harcourt's belief that the chair should prioritize the person sitting in it, rather than vice versa. The original design included variations for both men and women, with high and low backs respectively. Additional models were later introduced, showcasing stitched edges, fixed cushions, and deep-buttoned padding.
Despite the fact that Harcourt had not been designing for a long time, in 2011 he delivered the blueprint for a new, contemporary base for the 500 series. This is the cross-foot base that Artifort introduced in 2012, together with extra-thick deep-buttoned upholstery.
